Explore new images in Google Earth

Remember, that 'WOW' moment when we used Google Earth for the first time. Minutes after it launched on 29 June 2005, we did what everyone else has done since then, and Zoomed in to see our homes.

To celebrate Google Earth's first decade, Google has added a layer called Voyager (Desktop version of the software only), which shows you the "newest and most interesting imagery" across the globe. As you can see in the main screengrab, types of image are represented by glowing icons of different colours and shapes. Click them to see Street view highlights, cities shown in 3D and updated satellite photos (there's more information on Google's Official Blog: bit.ly/blog375)

Voyager also shows new images in Earth view, which is a library of the most spectacular landscape you can see in Google Earth (such as Iraq's Hammer Marshes, above, which looks like a giant rasberry - ripple ice cream). As part of the 10th birthday celebrations, Google has expanded the collection to 1,500 images. See them at earthview.withgoogle.com, or by adding a Chrome extension (bit.ly/chrome375), which shows you a new image every time you open a tab.
